After starting our business late in the year and right before Christmas, then enduring the dry January, we finally held our first informal tasting last night at the Oya Bar in St. Gallen. Unfortunately, with the Coronavirus in the air we had to take extra precautions including registration and persons count at our event.
Our first tasting event theme was Danish gins, where we presented some very unknown small distillery gins such as Sams Island, Jim & Tony Buckthorn and Pink Gin, by Stone Grange Distellery, OriGin CPH a distillery in Maaloev near Copenhagen and finally one of our favorite new to the market Maze gin with hints of carrots. Our favorite tonics Swiss Mountain was the tonic in our G&T.
Dominic then gave us a detailed presentation about our trip through Denmark, looking for these unique spirits, a brief gin processing overview and Benjamin explained about his MAZE gin made with “Rübli” botanicals or Swiss carrots.
Finally, Luisa, Dominic and Benjamin opened up the tasting bar and our booth was continuously occupied until Midnight. Luisa presented us with her creative cocktail menu and drink selection matrix and Oya Bar mixed and blended our favorite G&T’s.
At 10.00 came the drawing for the Frederik Bagger glasses and Mill and Morter botanical mixes and at 11.00 DJ Alex layed out the music and entertained us until 12.00.
